This was a pain as you can imagine, but well worth it. Some of my favorite panels are in this chapter, but man it was a lot of work!
OK so something has been brought to my attention. I've had a couple complaints about the font, that it's too hard to read, that it's ugly. This is surprising to me since i went to some marginal lengths to pick this font. It is in fact a public domain font, which i thought well suited the feel of this comic, but if it makes things difficult to read then i am prepared to change it. So i need opinions! should it go? should it stay? it's a huge pain to change it so I'm only prepared to do so if my readers really dislike it. so yeah, let me know.
also as far as the people reading this comic, is it too early to start looking at making avatars or stamps? It seems like shameless advertising to me but it may be just what people would like. I'm not sure how to make the little animated stamps but i am certainly willing to learn if it means pulling in some more readers.
also if there are any Canadians reading this (woot Canada!) if you are going to be at the Montreal Comic con, then good news! so will I!
I'll be making a journal post about it with some updates about Dave and some other stuff soon so check that out.
so basically what you should get from all of this is, i am taking this pretty seriously (i always did believe it or not) and i want Dave to be read! So if stamps are in order then they will be made, and in the meantime, if you like Dave, then tell people about it! tell your friends (but you know, in a not-in-you-face way) and family!
At the time of writing this (Feb 8th 2012) there were only 11 chapters published. you can check how many chapters are published on the website. there will be people mad at me for directing them towards the website, try it! it's better!
thanks! I originally wrote him to be a very bland and expressionless character, but right away in chapter 1 i knew that wasn't going to work, he seems to find more and more expression and the story progresses.
I worry i rely too much on __,',__ now (concerned/furrowed eyebrows)
Oh, my glasses are off and I can't see worth a darn but I could read your font just fine! Anyway...
I thought Dave was adorable...until he became greedy...but then it was justified by his primitive mindset so he became adorable again. This was a really interesting concept. XD I juuuust might take the time to read the rest of this.
It was strange, but I read this in a voice that was used for a Half-Life mod called The Stanley Parable (if you don't know what I'm referring to, ignore me...)
i know and love the Stanely's parable. I've tried hard to envision who would voice act the narrator if it could be anyone, and honestly i have no idea.. all i know is i wouldn't want to go with the obvious choices like Stephen Fry. The narrator from Stanely parable would actually work really well, because he has a gradient of tones.
if you like Stanley's Parable, you might want to try Dear Esther, it's different but similar in story telling.
thanks for reading Dave, I'm super glad you enjoyed it!
Yes! The part where Dave was being scolded by the narrator reminded me instantly of that voice. I loved how the Stanley Parable used its target audience's (gamers) sources of paranoia. The irony of the plot where actually LISTENING to the narrator would lead to the path of freedom also piqued my interest~
Dear Esther? Hm...Okay, I'll check it out! ^^ And you're welcome!
